The parent company of Medarva Stony Point Surgery Center will open a medical center in The Notch at West Creek, a planned, mixed-use development just off West Broad Street near state Route 288.
Medarva this week announced plans to open the medical center in eastern Goochland County by December.
The center, now under construction, will be Medarva’s first major expansion since it established its Stony Point Surgery Center in 2002.
“Our vision is to create a comprehensive location where patients can see physicians from primary care to specialists and where we can provide the diagnostic and surgical services to support the physician’s efforts,” said Bruce P. Kupper, president and CEO of Medarva.
The Medarva center will be one part of a larger medical office development called West Creek Medical Park, which is being developed as part of The Notch at West Creek by Lingerfelt Development Co., a subsidiary of Henrico County-based The Lingerfelt Cos., one of the region’s largest office building owners.
In December, Lingerfelt Cos. acquired a six-acre parcel in The Notch at West Creek. The company plans to eventually build three office buildings there, totaling about 180,000 square feet.
Medarva is leasing about 67 percent of the first building, a nearly 66,000-square-foot medical facility, said Ryan Lingerfelt, a principal with Lingerfelt Cos. While Medarva may expand there, Lingerfelt Cos. also will look for other medical practices to occupy space in the park.
The specific types of practices “will be governed by demand from the marketplace,” Lingerfelt said.
“The entire West Creek area is a good location for medical office demand,” he said.
Medarva said its Stony Point Surgery Center will not be affected by the opening of the new center.
“I think it is very complementary to our Stony Point location,” Kupper said.
The new center’s location at the Goochland and Henrico border near Route 288 and Interstate 64 means it will be “accessible to people from all over central Virginia,” as well as patients from Charlottesville and Northern Virginia, Kupper said.
The Notch at West Creek is a 230-acre mixed-use development being developed by The Pruitt Cos. and The Riverstone Group.
It is a subsection of the 3,500-acre West Creek office park, which is home to a major office campus for Capital One Financial and is the corporate headquarters for the Farm Bureau of Virginia, Performance Food Group and CarMax.
The Notch includes a 254-unit upscale apartment complex as well as retail and general office buildings.
